Job Connect and the Summer Jobs Service are provincially funded employment programs for youth. Both programs play an important role in supporting economic development in Dufferin County and assisting local employers with attracting employees. Job Seekers who participate in the Job Connect program are over the age of 16. Students who participate in the Summer Jobs Service are between 15 and 24 years of age and must be returning to school in the fall.

Employers can be:

Private sector business
Non-profit and other community organizations
Farm business
Broader public service business

Note: Employer must not displace existing staff with students or youth hired through the Job Connect or Summer Jobs Service Programs


How Job Connect and the Summer Jobs Service can help your business

Job Connect has a pool of job seekers who are eager to gain employment.
Job Connect can provide you with pre-screened applicants who have worked with our employment counsellors to become job-ready.
Job Connects' training consultants work with you to develop a training plan that suits both you and the employee and provide ongoing support.
A training incentive may be available to employers to assist with the training costs associated with a placement.
We provide you with the opportunity to advertise your job postings in our busy resource centre and on this web site.


Eligibility Requirements:

To access Job Connect and Summer Jobs, your business must be registered to legally do business in Ontario with a current business number and be taking applicable payroll deductions.
Your business must have W.S.I.B. and third party liability coverage.
Your new hire cannot be directly related to you.
A Federal business number will need to be provided in order to be eligible for a subsidized placement.

1. What kind of training incentive will I receive?
The level of training incentive will depend upon the nature of the training that you are providing, and the level of education, experience and skills of the youth you are hiring.

2. How long is the training period?
The training period can vary, from 2-24 weeks depending on the intensity/amount of training involved.

3. Can I hire more than one person through the program?
Yes, you can hire as many participants as you wish

4. Can I refer an individual, that I would like to hire, to the program?
Yes, if the candidate meets the eligibility criteria and is interested in the program, and if the job is relevant to the goals of the individual.

5. How often will I be reimbursed?
Generally this is done on a monthly basis. Reimbursement forms provided by Job Connect are to be filled in and faxed (or mailed) once they have been signed by the employer and the Job connect participant.

6. Is there much paperwork involved?
No, approximately once a month a training consultant will phone you to review the training plan and the participant's progress.
